While not criticizing Trump’s donation, you do realize that the Red Cross and another relief agency are providing those things…because the Obama administration had emergency support as well as disaster relief funds moving into place at the beginning of the flooding
Actually a lot of my friends and family in the area have not seen much of the Red Cross in the area and most are depending on each other for help.
Actually the governor declared a state of emergency. So the Red Cross came as per policy established well before Obama ever came to the White House. So he actually didn’t even lose a stroke.
I have friends in Louisiana who have not seen the Red Cross at all yet! Where do you think the Red Cross get’s the stuff from???? Money that is donated to them. It takes time for them to collect and translate that money into actual working capital for the people on the ground….. Obama does NOT run the Red Cross and can’t ‘order them’ to do anything. They are an independent organization and with zero federal control. As far as FEMA and Federal funds…FEMA is still not around yet and do you think the way our government moves that these people have seen any federal money yet????? Trumps donation went right to a local church…local people got the food, diapers , formula, cleaning supplies that day. Who I’m sure appreciated them greatly!!!

For 10+ years I worked disaster response. What we don’t want:
* NO CLOTHING. We do not want your dirty old clothes. We do not want to transport your dirty old clothes. We do not want to have to dispose of your dirty old clothes in some dump
* We do not want politicians to visit. They eat up too many of our resources and are a distraction from the job we want to be doing: search and rescue, supplying water, food and housing for the displaced, coordination of all of the volunteer agencies, cleanup, etc.
What we do want:
* MONEY. It is much more efficient to purchase what is needed close to the disaster site. PLUS, since the purchases are local, that money goes back into the community.
* YOUR TIME. If you can volunteer with the Red Cross or one of the many local community-oriented charities, that is a big help.
What Trump did was reprehensible. His visit was a distraction and caused the folks on the ground to accomodate his photo opportunity. Do you know how many first responders, state police and disaster managers that takes out of the equation? That is the reason the governor asked that politicians refrain from visiting until next week.
Finally, how funny was it that trump brought PLAY-DOH to hand out?! I guess all those people can now start fashioning dikes out of the clay he brought.

First let me say, Thanks for your help in disaster response. I’m sure that it is a Fullfilling but tough thing to do. However, your response is one that may be appropriate for a different type of disaster or a smaller one than the one that those in Louisiana currently face. Your list is a bit outdated as well. When I donate I won’t be giving anything to the Red Cross. When only 10 cents of every dollar goes to the effort. With the magnitude of this disaster I do not think that clean used clothing won’t be appreciated. When you have nothing you take all that you can get. I know that first hand after Katrina and certainly appreciated every bit of what I got… Then passed on what I didn’t need.
You have also Obviously been drinking the kool aid that has been offered up by the media as well. Trumps visit did more for the victims of this devastation than not. He was not there for a photo op… There was no media there. Maybe 1 local tv station. Most of what you are seeing on the mainstream was bought from personal iPhones and cameras. While looking at those pics and videos and making all of your assumptions try to see if you can find any police officers surrounding and protecting Mr. Trump? i don’t think that you will. He has his own security. He didn’t shut any roads down or tie up any traffic. Mr. Trump took a little time that he had between stops to make a difference in someone’s life… In fact Many people’s lives were touched by his visit. Not only because he filled an 18 wheeler with much needed supplies, food, water, clothes but because gave a sizable donation to a local church that is feeding hundreds. Is it really all that bad that he also thought about the children? They lost everything too! I’m pretty sure that the kids that were lucky enough to get some play doh certainly could care less that Mr Trump Is a confident man.

In each case Baptist Church volunteers game in and setup safe secure areas for children to play , share and talk about what they had been through while the parents could be working or perhaps were hospitalized themselves. Working for 3 weeks at a time in each of these disasters not once did I see anyone with any church community or any other organization like the Red Cross or Samaritan’s Purse ask anyone about their sexual are religious preferences some people on the thread needs to get a life

Katrina was not the main cause of the damage in New Orleans. The levy failure caused all of the flooding and that is why you saw people on their roofs. The flood did not occur until after Katrina passed. Katrina caused a lot of damage in Mississippi and other parts of Louisiana but the levy failure was the major cause of damage in New Orleans.

Let me say something here. Rita totally destroyed my home. Yes, a week and 2 weeks later we got help. MRE’s, water sometimes, small bottles of cleansers.a mop and a broom. No blankets, no pillows, we slept in a tent on the floor and cots. Money wouldn’t have helped because the stores were either closed or empty. Kids got no toys and that means a lot to young kids to have something when they lost everything, so don’t bash play doh, it’s better than nothing. We had no power for weeks and to us no power was no water. I survived Hurricane opal in 95, helped people clean the muck out of their houses. Any help whether it is physical or tangible goods is appreciated. For Trump to do this with his own funds IS admirable. I don’t see either Hillary or Obama sharing any of their own cash. Obama may send aid, but never ever from his own pocket. For 10+ years I worked disaster response. What we don’t want:
* NO CLOTHING. We do not want your dirty old clothes. We do not want to transport your dirty old clothes. We do not want to have to dispose of your dirty old clothes in some dump
* We do not want politicians to visit. They eat up too many of our resources and are a distraction from the job we want to be doing: search and rescue, supplying water, food and housing for the displaced, coordination of all of the volunteer agencies, cleanup, etc.
What we do want:
* MONEY. It is much more efficient to purchase what is needed close to the disaster site. PLUS, since the purchases are local, that money goes back into the community.
* YOUR TIME. If you can volunteer with the Red Cross or one of the many local community-oriented charities, that is a big help.
What Trump did was reprehensible. His visit was a distraction and caused the folks on the ground to accomodate his photo opportunity. Do you know how many first responders, state police and disaster managers that takes out of the equation? That is the reason the governor asked that politicians refrain from visiting until next week.
Finally, how funny was it that trump brought PLAY-DOH to hand out?! I guess all those people can now start fashioning dikes out of the clay he brought.

Giving a truck which no one can confirm was actually his, and money that never actually got donated? Maybe he will donate the promised money, but history proves that’s doubtful. If he donates at all, it’ll only be after the press guilts him into it, and will likely be less than promised. He has a long history of promising to donate millions, claiming to donate hundreds of millions, and there being no evidence that he actually donated. When he does donate, it’s generally through his foundation which contains mostly money from other people, since he hasn’t donated to it since 2008. He doesn’t do things out of the goodness of his heart. He only does things for personal gain, and attention.

The Governor of the state ask The President, and the candidates to wait a week, so they can focus on saving people and getting things under control. Trump ignored that, and took advantage of a photo-op.

When deliveries are made to natural disaster victims, they are normally palletized and wrapped, which makes it easier for them to be unloaded. Which was the case in the trailer that Trump had delivered. Except for the few separate things purposely left in the back of the trailer, including Play Doh, so Trump could be filmed unloading. Yes, it was still a good deed by Trump, but trust me, he does not do anything unless it benefits him.

And then the same thing with the $100k donation, where they announced it, but didn’t actually do it, and then they said, “maybe friday”?
If you want to give the liberal press an endless pile of candy, this is the way to do it. You can’t just “say” you did it and not have a damn check. It’s not like he couldn’t write a check for that much and just hand it to someone, or just publish the truck manifest. It’s all weird shady promises.
