DEBATE FACT CHECK – Hillary Lied About % of Clinton Foundation Funds that Go to Charity
FACT CHECK : In the biggest debate LIE of the day, Hillary Clinton claimed 90% of the Clinton Foundation funds go to charity.
This was not even CLOSE and a MASSIVE Pinnochio.
According to the DailyCaller a measly 5.7% of the Clintons Foundation’s budget in 2015 went to Charity…Nowhere even CLOSE to 90%.
Just 5.7 percent of the Clinton Foundation’s massive 2014 budget actually went to charitable grants, according to the tax-exempt organization’s IRS filings. The rest went to salaries and employee benefits, fundraising and “other expenses.”
The Clinton Foundation spent a hair under $91.3 million in 2014, the organization’s IRS filings show. But less than $5.2 million of that went to charitable grants.
That number pales in comparison to the $34.8 million the foundation spent on salaries, compensation and employee benefits.
Another $50.4 million was marked as “other expenses,” while the remaining almost $851K was marked as “professional fundraising expenses.”
Despite taking in an additional $30 million in 2014, the Clinton Foundation spent 40 percent less on charitable grants in 2014 than in 2013. Even as it slashed charitable spending, the foundation increased the amount spent on salaries, employee benefits and compensation by $5 million in 2014. The foundation also spent $5 million more “other expenses” in 2014.

Of course the Hillary haters won’t bother to fact check this fact check, but this story isn’t even remotely accurate. The Clinton Foundation rarely gives money to “OTHER CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS.”
so yes, less than 6% of the money goes to “OTHER CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS,” but that total does not include all the charitable work that the Clinton Foundation does itself, like the aids medication they supply to more than 50% of the total number of people in the world receiving aids medication. It doesn’t include the work it does itself to supply tens, if not hundreds of millions of people, clean drinking water.
So yes, approximately 90% of the money raised by the Clinton foundation does in fact go to charitable works. It doesn’t go to “OTHER CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS,” because a lot of those organizations do not use the money the way they say they use the money.
That is why the foundation has the highest rating possible, from every charitable watchdog organization. Here is one of the charity watchdog organizations that shows 86.7% of the funds raised go to charitable services and programs.
Once again, this story proves what is so easy to prove. Hillary Clinton haters are mindless sheep, who just accept as fact, anything negative about Hillary Clinton. Even the most blatantly false stories, like this one.

For the period covering 2008 to 2012 the Clinton Foundation took in $500 million. (per their tax returns) Nearly $110 million was paid out in salaries and $25 million went to travel expenses. 60% of their revenue, approximately $290 million was listed as other expenses. (not gifts, donations, or charity but other EXPENSES)
That leaves about $75 million (or 15%) for actual charitable programs, So, there you have it 85% for the foundation and 15% for charity.
By the way Chelsea make $900,000.00 per year to be on the foundation board. (I’ll be she really has to work hard for that kind of money especially being a stay at home mom) Coincidentally, Bill and Hillary donated $1 million to their own foundation which covers Chelsea’s salary, travel expenses and other expenses. Pretty slick huh? The they get to take a tax deduction!!
As one who did fact check your fact check, NO 90% of the money given to the Clinton Foundation does NOT in fact go to charitable works.

That wasn’t a lie. 5.7% went to charitable GRANTS. The Clinton Foundation isn’t in the business of giving out grants. It’s what philanthropists call an operating foundation, which means it doesn’t give much money to outside groups to fulfill its mission. In 2014, the foundation gave less than 3% of revenue to other non-profits. Instead, the foundation does its own work, with staff and partners around the world.
Foundation does its own work? Okay, where are the front lines that were/are supposed to help Haiti?

Nancy, please do your research. They provide hardly anything as an operating charity. All of their money is spent on themselves, expenses travelling around, renting out convention centers for fundraising, paying Chelsea a million a year. Go read the tax returns for the charity and see for yourself. It is a tax shelter and bribe center for foreign governments that need favors.

Bill, there is no evidence the Clintons have ever made a penny from the Clinton foundation, and there is no evidence that foreign governments, or anyone else has received political favors for making contributions to the Clinton foundation. None whatsoever.
Please don’t respond with just your empty, non informed opinions. Show me the proof of your accusations. Show me actual evidence of quid pro quo, not just the “potential” for it.
It is a four star rated charitable organization, by every charity watchdog organization there is. Can you provide some links to support your statements……and opinion pieces aren’t evidence. Keep in mind that the travelling expenses, renting out conventions, salaries to people like Chelsea who run the charity, etc., are not a part of the 87% of the dollars that charity watchdog organizations say goes to charitable programs, but is already included in the amount of money that goes towards overhead, administration expenses, etc.
Please supply some kind of proof that the numbers shown by charitable watchdog organizations, are inaccurate, or just admit to the world that you have no clue about this.
This country is struggling for one reason and one reason only. The majority of people in this country form their opinions on rumors and innuendo, and have either forgotten, or never learned how to examine evidence, research an issue, and form an unbiased, intelligent opinion, on anything.

I have heard so many otherwise intelligent friends and colleagues state things as fact that are absolutely untrue. Pure propaganda that is easily disproven but they don’t bother checking. Instead they mindlessly repeat what they heard on Fox News or read in an email or on an alt-right website. These “sources” generally provide no link to their resources or report based on what an “anonymous” source told them = made up crap! And they VOTE based on belief in this propaganda. I can only conclude they are intellectually lazy, want someone to tell them what they want to hear based on emotion not logic or truth.
Do your homework. The charity is under investigation and the BBB gives it a horrible rating. Typical blowhard liberal, keep repeating the same lies over and over again hoping someone will believe you.

the BBB does not give it a horrible rating. i went directly to the web page on BBB rating of the Clinton Foundation. Of the BBB’s 20 standards for rating, BBB approves of the foundation on 17 of the standards and disapproves of their policies on 3 of the standards, none of which constitute “horrible” issues. talk about blowhard. your claim is false and you criticize others as being blowhards. hah!
I know it’s hard to understand for nitwits, but here is the reality. 90% goes to charitable work, but only a low percentage goes through other charities. Most of the money is direct action. I know that confuses some but the 5.7% this stupid article touts is due to how it gets reported. That reports the amount of charitable grants, in other words, grants to other charities. The rest of the money is used in direct application, in other words, the Clinton Foundation is acting as its own charity.

The Clintons donate their own money to charity as well. It is in all of their tax returns submitted. It’s trump that refuses to release his current tax returns so we can see if he donates his own money which I doubt. His and childrens foundations were proven to be donated money used as they please including paying their fines and portrait of Trump.

Quasimodo, other than work they perform for the foundation, the Clintons do not make any money off the foundation. The salaries paid to Chelsea, for example, for her work as a board member of the foundation, are comparable to other similarly sized charitable organizations, and are in fact taxed.
We know this, because the Clintons have released more tax return information than any Presidential candidate in history.
On the other hand, we have no ratings whatsoever on the Trump Foundation, from any charitable organization. Nor do we have any tax returns to examine. We do have the fact that the Trump organization has been called a fraudulent enterprise by the state of New York, and it has been ordered to immediatly cease soliciting contributions in the state of New York.

Ann, you clearly do not know how it works. The donations on their tax returns to charity are to their own foundations and it is a tax strategy used by the wealthy to pay less taxes. You can donate up to 50% of your income to charity. You donate it to your own charity. You lose ownership of the money but you maintain control of it. I realize you probably watch CNN for most of your information but please realize that the Clinton’s are hurting you personally and they are destroying america. All of the financial records of the Clinton Foundation are publicly available, and can be examined.
Conversely the Trump foundation is a fraudulent enterprise that has been ordered to cease soliciting contributions in the state of New York, because of the large number of charitable organizations that have denied that they have ever received any of the money, the Trump Foundation claims to have given them.
Furthermore, almost none of the financial records of the Trump Foundation are publicly available, because Donald Trump has released a great deal less financial information than any Presidential candidat in the last fifty years.

When you read the CLINTON EXPLANATION of how their foundation works and how it’s charitable contributions are dealt out, what you say makes sense (umm kinda sorta because what your explaining is exactly what Halliburton does without lying about it). If you read their tax information and follow the money it is nothing but a bargain basement front company to launder billions coming in and returning favors going out. Where are the tangible assets, the machines, the goods and service delivery warehouses and the transportation systems? With the kind of money your talking about they should rival Amazon….but they sell nothing and the entities that they hire make or do nothing that is why Haiti’s government and it’s people are so incensed.CF won a 2 billion dollar contract. Me and my wife ran a non for profit organization called Mam’s House and we were expected to document ALL monetary transactions, both in coming and out going, bottom line! And it was reported through our taxes even though we had a 501c3 exemption, we still had to document everything. This coming from both IRS guidelines and our lawyer.

The Clinton Foundation does not make many GRANTS, instead spends funds directly to aid worthwhile causes around the world (like aids in Africa, Haitian relief, , etc.). About 90% of funds taken in are used in this way. The Clintons do not and have not received any funds from their charitable foundation.
How much did they pay themselves in salary? They became multimillionaires running this charitable foundation.
First the folks that are defending the Clintons are obviously like long supporters and not looking at any of this objectively. Chelsea gets a salary of nearly 900K that is almost 1 million per year. Sure, believe the lies. She says “charity” because the organization actually runs programs, not just dole out grants to other charities. So, the very small percentage is “true”, but an intentional misrepresentation…i.e. a lie.
Their grants + programs total 90%. This is verifiable information. They have programs that employ people and buy resources for use with the recipients of the program. Third-party charity watchdogs rate their foundation just like others, and it rates well.
