Ted Cruz Introduces Constitutional Amendment to Impose Term Limits
Last month, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) announced that he would do his part to “drain the swamp” by introducing term limit legislation in Congress — something President-elect Donald Trump has talked about quite a bit. Now on the first day of the 115th Congress, Cruz has made good on his word.

From Cruz’s U.S. Senate website:
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) today proposed an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to impose term limits on members of Congress. The amendment would limit U.S. senators to two six-year terms and members of the U.S. House of Representatives to three two-year terms.
“D.C. is broken,” said Sen. Cruz. “The American people resoundingly agreed on Election Day, and President-elect Donald Trump has committed to putting government back to work for the American people. It is well past time to put an end to the cronyism and deceit that has transformed Washington into a graveyard of good intentions.”
Cruz continued: “The time is now for Congress, with the overwhelming support of the American people, to submit this constitutional amendment to the states for speedy ratification. With control of a decisive majority of the states, the House of Representatives, and the Senate, we have a responsibility to answer the voters’ call-to-action. We must deliver.”
“Term limits are the first step towards reforming Capitol Hill,” said Rep. DeSantis. “Eliminating the political elite and infusing Washington with new blood will restore the citizen legislature that our Founding Fathers envisioned. The American people have called for increased accountability and we must deliver. Senator Cruz has been instrumental in efforts to hold Congress accountable, and I look forward to working with him to implement term limits.”
The idea of term limits for Congress is widely supported by the American people according to a Rasmussen survey from October, which showed that 74 percent of those surveyed approved of term limits, 13 percent were opposed, and 13 percent were undecided.
Good for Cruz. It’s nice to see a politician actually follow through with their promises and that’s precisely what he did here.
Cruz and DeSantis’ amendment introduced in the Senate was co-sponsored by Sens. Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), and David Perdue (R-Ga.)

Fantastic! I’m tired of the worthless career politicians selling out their country for the pleasure of Soros. Politicians like McCain, Graham, Pelosi, Schumer, Derban, McConnell, and others. I’m tired of these old bastards. Let’s do it! Thank you Senator Cruz.
You are so right term limits!
Twelve years is to long plus No pension an insurance after they leave plus not to be able to run again an we the people with set there pay
Pelosi, Schumer, and McCain need to form an Anti Trump Trimuvirate
Write your congressmen in support.
I think the terms proposed are still too long. But, it is a start.
i agree but you gotta start somewhere. You know they wont agree to it unless the money is right. thats why i like Trump, he has all the money he needs!
one 4 yr term for senators the same for the House!!! the terms would every 2 yrs we change every you will have a new senator then 2 yr you get a new House!!
I a grew with you Sqeil!
This is an good old boys club! Disbanded these elites, once and for all. Our founding fathers never intended congress to be a club. They are there to do the people’s work. TERM LIMITS NOW! YOU GO CRUZ!
This is Trump team idea. That is why McCain and others are acting strange these days, and Anti-Trump.
McCain was also for Remain in the UK he is still mad that Hillary lost he supported her and was Anti Trump since 2015!
I agree with Senitor Cruze.
They should make sure that they don’t keep getting their salary an health care after they’ve done with their terms in office. The tax payers shouldn’t have to pay that bill also.
I am so pleased that this is coming about. Thank you Ted Cruz and all congressman who are supporting this.
I too am sick of the wealthy elitist who have taken over, lied to us, and who only care about their power and padding their pockets. This is not how a strong America was born and it surely has created a slow death to America. Term Limits and no special retirement. They serve and then go home. No free college for their family, No special healthcare. They get the same benefits as the average American, They work for the American People and are to serve the people.
Go online, find your congressman or woman and demand that they support this bill.
i Just did this and it took 3 minutes and i did not know my Senators email addy, real easy!
“Power corrupts; Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton, first Baron Acton (1834–1902). We need Term Limits at all levels of the government – Federal, State, Local, judges, etc.
Will be interesting to see the states who dissent are. Hopefully none. It would be nice if congressional aides had limits as well. A swamp unto itself.
Great idea, however when have you ever seen a Rich Person give up their seat for someone else?
I agree with this and the Senator or Congressman that opposes it should be the first to go.
It should not even be a question! 75% of the American public wants term limits, so why aren’t there any? There is for the president , so why not Congress????
Well, we’ll see how far it goes. Considering that the ones it effects are the ones who have to vote for it before it goes to the states. I truly hope it works and it not a ploy by Cruz to make him look good because he doesn’t expect it to go through! From what I have researched about Ted Cruz, he has done nothing to help the common man so I have my doubts! In my book, he’s just another slick talking used car salesman (sorry, I should lower used car salesmen that much).
If Cruz is trying to pull a slick one to make himself look good and position himself for a Presidential run in the future then what he is doing makes sense. I just don’t trust him! It actually is the best idea put forth in years! However, along with that, changes need to be made in the compensation packages associated with the terms of the House and Senate. So, they get pushed out after their term, now each one has their total retirement package including their outrageous medical program. It will be a Hell of a bigger expense on the American people with after 6 years they all get the Total Retirement program they get now. That’s one of the main reasons i dont see it getting approved. Why would the Goose kill their Golden Egg? I hope I am wrong!!
Term limits are the first step, next step will be to remove lifetime retirement pensions and benefits. Have them pass a law stipulating that they are not exempt from any laws!
The time is long overdue. This is a move that should have been made many years ago. An apathetic people have allowed it to happen for way too long. Finally, people have come awake and decided enough is enough. Time to do something about it. Any Congress person who stands against it is not a representative of the people. Drain the swamp!
