Obama’s America : Thousands of California Soldiers MUST Repay Enlistment Bonuses While ILLEGALS get Food Stamps
In today’s America refugees and illegals have it good.
They get housing, free healthcare, food stamps, and assistance finding work.
All of these GOODIES are compliments of YOU – the American taxpayer.
However, on the flip side of things – homeless Americans and U.S. vets don’t have such a SWEET DEAL in Obama or Hillary’s America.
They get shafted.
Forgotten, and left to die on the streets or while waiting for help from a broken VA healthcare system.
And if that was not bad enough, now the government is adding insult to injury by forcing California vets to repay enlistment bonuses DECADES after the war.
But again, illegals and refugees are living the high life on your tax dollar.
Why?
Because the military overwhelmingly votes “Republican,” so Obama and Hillary don’t give a CRAP about them.

Short of troops to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan a decade ago, the California National Guard enticed thousands of soldiers with bonuses of $15,000 or more to reenlist and go to war.
Now the Pentagon is demanding the money back.
Nearly 10,000 soldiers, many of whom served multiple combat tours, have been ordered to repay large enlistment bonuses — and slapped with interest charges, wage garnishments and tax liens if they refuse — after audits revealed widespread overpayments by the California Guard at the height of the wars last decade.
Investigations have determined that lack of oversight allowed for widespread fraud and mismanagement by California Guard officials under pressure to meet enlistment targets.
But soldiers say the military is reneging on 10-year-old agreements and imposing severe financial hardship on veterans whose only mistake was to accept bonuses offered when the Pentagon needed to fill the ranks.
“These bonuses were used to keep people in,” said Christopher Van Meter, a 42-year-old former Army captain and Iraq veteran from Manteca, Calif., who says he refinanced his home mortgage to repay $25,000 in reenlistment bonuses and $21,000 in student loan repayments that the Army says he should not have received. “People like me just got screwed.”
In Iraq, Van Meter was thrown from an armored vehicle turret — and later awarded a Purple Heart for his combat injuries — after the vehicle detonated a buried roadside bomb.
Susan Haley, a Los Angeles native and former Army master sergeant who deployed to Afghanistan in 2008, said she sends the Pentagon $650 a month — a quarter of her family’s income — to pay down $20,500 in bonuses that the Guard says were given to her improperly.
“I feel totally betrayed,” said Haley, 47, who served 26 years in the Army along with her husband and oldest son, a medic who lost a leg in combat in Afghanistan.
Haley, who now lives in Kempner, Texas, worries they may have to sell their house to repay the bonuses. “They’ll get their money, but I want those years back,” she said, referring to her six-year reenlistment.

These bonuses were illegally paid out during the Bush administration for skill sets that the California Guardsmen didn’t qualify for. But go ahead and keep blaming the black president instead of people like Dick Cheney that made billions for Halliburton. I did my two tours in Iraq and got out around the same time this shit was happening.

I have seen up close and personal from my father in law who served in Vietnam , came home deaf in one ear and missing a body part , and suffered later in life from agent orange , his health care was so horrific , waiting months for the va , agonizing pain and suffering , sadly he gave up the fight and committed suicide in 2013 thanks to a broken system….. Love and miss ya dad , I’m still fighting for ya!!!!!

@Candi Mellor: These illegal bonuses were paid out during the Bush administration, but it is Obama who ordered the Pentagon to stop trying to get that money back from vets who deserve that money by way of the contract they signed in good faith and by subsequently putting their lives on the line. Now that Obama has instituted this moratorium, it can be handled as it must be handled: by an act of Congress. I just hope that the Republican House memebers don’t again try to shut down THIS Obama agenda simply because Obama wants it.

No you dont have to prove you are a citizen the dhs food stamp and other benefits applications have a spot to mark if you are an illegal alien and underneath it says you will not be reported to immigration. There is also a spot to mark that if you dont have a social security number, and a spot if you need interpreter services and if you do havve to prove citizen ship then that is a new thing. Back in the nineties when you still got handed a booklet of foodstamps in a line every month aunt watched a mexican drive up in a mercedes take of a fur coat, epensive earrings and get in line ahead of her. She couldn’t speak english and got more stamps then my aunt so no they dont have to be a citizen and they get benefits.
What might help? Start putting your comments on a pre-paid post card or write letters to your Congressman or even the President. The only way we can be heard is through writing letters.

Well meaning as this suggestion is it just isn’t the way to solve the debt problem these soldier have.
Fortunately or government can forgive the debt.
It’s just a stroke of the pen. Now it is a little late you warn CA national elected representatives but maybe a few people can get something through a few layers of the congressional delegates.
One option is all ways stand firm with legal representation.
The US government looses to many contractor in court.
Each person who took the money was told what they had to do to get the money.
They can always use the Secretary of States investigation as proof That no matter how much you know you can deny that you understand and not one of them took the money with malaise against this great nation.
If you really care about this then join the Veterans who are demanding Congress pass a bill stopping this. Only Congress has the power to do this, not the President. I wish American schools still taught civics.
These enlistment bonuses started in the Bush administration and carried over to the first two years of Obamas first term. It makes ZERO sense how the author would blame our POTUS when the true article on CNN and other reputable media outlets clearly state this was all due to some National Guard recruiters trying to meet their quotas. They served in upwards of 30 months in federal prison for their actions. That has nothing to do Obama demanding that they pay back their bonuses. Obama hates the military because they don’t respect him as the commander in chief. The 150 thousand immigrants that were mistakenly given American citizenship’s now being supported by our tax dollars; are they going to take their citizenship’s back, if not why not?
