Liberal Matt Lauer Admits Weeping Over Biden Award

NBC’s host of “The Today Show” Matt Lauer confessed Friday that he was so overcome with emotion that he “just burst out crying” when President Obama surprised Vice President Joe Biden by awarding him the Medal of Freedom Thursday.

As Lauer recounted the event, he proclaimed there was “something special in Washington yesterday.” When Lauer watched Obama surprise Biden with the Medal of Freedom, he said it was a good thing that there were no cameras nearby to capture the moment.

“So I’m glad there were no cameras in my apartment yesterday because I was just sitting there weeping,” Lauer gushed. “I just burst out crying when I saw that moment. It was incredible.”

As it turned out, Lauer was not alone in his show of emotion. Andrea Mitchell, NBC News’s chief foreign affairs correspondent, admitted on MSNBC that she, too, was “in tears.”

“You know, every time I watch this — I’m just watching that ceremony — I was in tears,” Mitchell said. “We are seeing so much dissension and disruption in Washington and around the country and to see this relationship, this partnership pretty seamless on policy, if they had disputes, they were over their, you know, little lunches and breakfasts that we didn’t see.”

Biden himself couldn’t handle the emotions the recognition stirred up within himself. When Obama announced at the podium he would be awarding Biden the Medal of Freedom, the vice president was forced to turn his back to the cameras for a moment to compose himself and wipe away tears.
