Ivanka Trump and Paul Ryan Have a Secret Meeting

Ivanka Trump reportedly asked to meet with Paul Ryan.

The two met on Monday in New York City after Ryan’s speech to the Economic Club.

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) met privately with Donald Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka, in New York City on Monday.

Their meeting came after Ryan’s address at the Economic Club of New York earlier in the afternoon and was at Ivanka Trump’s request, according to two sources familiar with the meeting.

Ryan talked about his experience as the 2012 vice presidential nominee and Trump shared updates about her father’s campaign, an aide said.

Ryan, who began his first term as Speaker last October, has been on uneasy terms with the GOP presidential nominee over the past year.

The Wisconsin Republican held off from formally endorsing Donald Trump for weeks after he effectively clinched the GOP presidential nomination. And long before that, Ryan distanced himself from some of Trump’s most controversial statements, such as his proposal to ban Muslims from the U.S.

Trump returned the favor shortly after the party’s July convention by withholding an endorsement of Ryan over a long-shot primary challenger. He endorsed Ryan a few days later, along with Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), after backlash from others in his party.

Ivanka Trump has been one of her father’s most influential advisers throughout the campaign. She helped him craft a paid maternity-leave plan that the Trump campaign unveiled last week.
