BREAKING : The Failing New York Times Issues an Apology to it’s Readers for Biased Reporting
The New York Times, along with the rest of the North Korea-style propaganda media, made a mockery of journalism by shamelessly shilling for Hillary Clinton.
Now that she has lost, the media is terrified that they’re doomed (they are) and are issuing apologies for their “biased reporting.”

The Gray Lady feels the agony of political defeat — in her reputation and in her wallet. After taking a beating almost as brutal as Hillary Clinton’s, the New York Times on Friday made an extraordinary appeal to its readers to stand by her.
The publisher’s letter to subscribers was part apology and part defense of its campaign coverage, but the key takeaway was a pledge to do better. Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. admitted the paper failed to appreciate Donald Trump’s appeal.
“After such an erratic and unpredictable election there are inevitable questions: Did Donald Trump’s sheer unconventionality lead us and other news outlets to underestimate his support among American voters?”
While insisting his staff had “reported on both candidates fairly,” he also vowed that the paper would “rededicate ourselves to the fundamental mission of Times journalism. That is to report America and the world honestly, without fear or favor.” Ah, there’s the rub. Had the paper actually been fair to both candidates, it wouldn’t need to rededicate itself to honest reporting. And it wouldn’t have been totally blindsided by Trump’s victory.
Instead, because it demonized Trump from start to finish, it failed to realize he was onto something. And because the paper decided that Trump’s supporters were a rabble of racist rednecks and homophobes, it didn’t have a clue about what was happening in the lives of the Americans who elected the new president.
Sulzberger’s letter alludes to this, promising that the paper will “striv[e] always to understand and reflect all political perspectives and life experiences in the stories that we bring to you.” But bad or sloppy journalism doesn’t fully capture the Times sins.
Not after it announced that it was breaking it rules of coverage because Trump didn’t deserve fairness. As media columnist Jim Rutenberg put it in August, most Times reporters saw Trump “as an abnormal and potentially dangerous candidate” and thus couldn’t be even-handed.
That wasn’t one reporter talking — it was policy. The standards, developed over decades to force reporters and editors to be fair and to build public trust, were effectively eliminated as too restrictive for the Trump phenomenon.
Sorry, no dice.

This unbiased reporting damaged his reputation and people still call him horrible names that were started by the Hillary campaign without provocation only to damage the President-elect’s character. First, it was stunned confusion which turned to anger; then the slow realization that they had been outsmarted and blind-sided by the people they had been and were now denigrating; then the eventual acceptance of the reality that now, even their livelihoods were being threatened by those people that they had been manipulating for so long. I agree wholeheartedly but let’s not forget it was also publications like Time Magazine and Newsweek. I personally cancelled my subscriptions for that very reason during the last election and have never renewed. This time around I cancelled my local newspaper subscription. The editor gave me the flimsy excuse that their political articles came from the Associated Press but I pointed out that the local paper determines which articles they choose to run. Every political article was pro Hillary and upon occassion when they did run something on Trump it was very defamatory. Needless to say, Trump won by a large majority in our area because the public can no longer be fooled and thanks to the internet can research things on their own. Hopefully, one day, the integrity of the media will be restored but by and large, at present, it is a bunch of yellow journalism that we are being fed.
Like Barb, I cancelled my subscription to Newsweek and Time magazine and to our local newspaper during Obama’s election. I live in Hawaii and like California, is a one party system. Talk about bias news reporting on a local level.! I can’t wait for Trump to drain the swamp to include the biased media.

Over here in California the news coverage was unequivocally all in for Hillary. After being a lifetime and very loyal LA Times reader we just could not take it any more and cancelled. Same with CNN have to Boycott. Not surprised at all to see MSM in cahoots cheating as HRC was such a poor candidate who stood for nothing and is morally vacant. It was truly shocking to see her on 9/11 when she was thrown into the van and then she and her people tried to lie to us. To me that was a turning point in the eyes of many and it really shook me up and opened my eyes. In our home we used to make a habit of Sunday morning drinking coffee and eating watching Meet the Press but cancelled that as well as they are not capable of reporting all sides evenly. I am a Times subscriber, Republican elected official and a proud Donald Trump supporter. I subscribed to the Times so that I could learn the worst arguements against Conservative principles, much as I listen to Fox News to hear strong conservative viewpoints. The one difference is that Fox has at least one Democratic / Progressive panel member commenting on every political topic covered by the network. Not so at the Times. The Times did not “miss” the support of Donald Trump, it tried to kill it. The New York Times, CNN, Washington Post, and traditional networks decided to become combatants in the election, instead of referees.
So now the Times says its going to try to do better. When I see them add syndicated columnists such as Laura Ingram and other conservatives to their daily editions I will know they are serious . When their letters to the editor are reflective of all positions and their editorials more balanced we will know that the publisher is serious. Until then they are just the paper of record for liberal progressive America, who do not need nor deserve the financial support of us deplorable and irredeemable voters. Six months, then I make my decision whether or not to cancel my subscription.
Thank you for intelligent thinking. I have never subscribed to the New York Times, being way out West, but I do have a subscription for Vanity Fair. I always appreciated their well written articles about topics that were interesting and topical. The moment that Donald Trump announced his candidacy, however, the editor took it upon himself to trash Donald Trump at every turn. Blatantly. I have been throwing away that rag the minute it arrives for several months now, and will not be purchasing it again. Same with watching our national and local news stations from ABC and NBC (still deciding on CBS). I understand your reasoning about continuing to read the New York Times, however, I am of the mind to believe that what you read does effect your thinking, and reading subversive far-left opinions on a regular basis is not a good option for those of us who are over 60 and still trying to stay in our “right mind.”

Paul – I couldn’t agree with you more. Americans saw the media protecting Hillary when most Americans believe she is corrupt and should be in jail. Trump was abused not only by the media but within his own party – He had to fight the media and unfair and biased treatment within his own party but the American people saw through this. It has been so sad and disappointing to see journalism so corrupt. The media narrative is contributing to what we’re now seeing play out in the streets because they have made the headlines of Trump, along with his supporters, being racist, etc. If they want to redeem themselves then why not start sharing the truth behind all of this – Soros is behind all of this because his girl Hillary didn’t get elected and he was banking on that to further his globalization view. He’s behind paying the rioters (which they are, they are not protesters) and busing them in. They want the havoc in the streets and then maybe Obama can declare martial law. Why is the media not covering Obama’s silence with all of this – media and Obama are silent with this just as they are when a police officer is shot – only speak out when a black person is killed. Start doing your work journalists and maybe people will come back and buy your paper!

I did the same,read NYT articles as well as Fox News- Hannity,Kelly,etc.Even NPR was in tank w Hillary! If I didn’t love classical music,I would consider cancelling my sustaining membership with them. I looked up “fact checks” after debates and couldn’t even be confident with them! All done by biased reporters in favor of HRC! I’m so glad the election is over and time to move on!

Good points. I will also be looking for NYT articles and headlines to be unbiased. I don’t care if the Times keeps its liberal bias in its Opinion pages. That is where it should be. I want to know that, when I read an article or headline, I’m not getting a reporter’s opinion or an editor’s bias. The networks and newspapers aren’t supposed to be referees; they’re supposed to report the facts and let the rest of us decide.
I don’t think the Times can change. It has been sliding into liberal lunacy for decades. The collapse of its journalistic reponsibilty during the 2016 election was the inevitable outcome of years of increasingly irresponsible and biased reporting. What changed is Trump called them on it loudly during the campaign AND he won despite the MSM’s efforts to defeat him. Had he lost, there would be no soul-searching, no attempt to understand what they “missed”. The Times’ bias, always present, was exposed for all to see in this election; it was so blatant even liberals could see it.

I’d like to add to this, if I may, the New York Times as well as other main stream media services did a huge disservice to the U.S. voters by not being fair and impartial they were robbing voters of the right to unbiased information that would help them make their decision on the next president of the United States. Thank goodness for the other sources on the internet that allowed many of us to come to a more informed decision. Of course, the damage is now done, I know for me I will never trust a new source on it’s own and seek validation on any information I come across.

What I used to watch for news has been exposed as totally biased. We Trump supporters are not a bit surprised at the election. As a matter if fact, we thought he would win even bigger! NYT, I was a lifetime reader and quit you permanently. You called for the assassination of Trump. You made up false defamatory stories. You perhaps worked the hardest of anyone in print media to relentlessly take down Trump, and you exploited your once respected name to do it. It seems you allowed the self-serving personal money interests of some of your powerful large shareholders dictate this unforgivable journalistic breach. I was over and over again appalled by the the choice of headlines and articles the New York Times put out during the election process. For me and my husband the Trump name calling became so rediculously overt that we were drawn to simply read the headlines, the same way many people are to the National Enquirer headlines; but to purchase such rubbish from the New York Times masqarading as news is a rediculous thought.
The apology is a start, but upcoming headlines and articles must speak very very loud to makeup for the harm that has been done.

Apparently it used to be “Hear him”, in lieu of applause (forbidden in the House) in the 1600’s, but, by the late 1700’s, had become the former. One thing which seems to emerge, no matter what newspaper, etc. one reads (as a matter of habit or spontaneously), one needs to do a fair bit of cross-media fact checkng of one’s own — and I think that this recent media debacle has probably got quite a few people doing that now in a way that they may not have done before. Bonnie, a ‘shock’ would involve recognition of the truth – i.e., the way it actually is. The only shock for them is that it didn’t go as they wished and were expecting it to (having convinced themselves largely). They’re not capable of absorbing any seeming truth about the people who (just almost unable to help their prejudiced selves) they innately ‘look down on’, which might reveal facts running counter their ‘natural’ biases. Not wishing to take anything away from the win of President Elect Donald Trump and his supporters, the behaviour of almost all of the media – including much overseas media – throughout the Election campaign period, has clearly had a role to play – perhaps a significant role – in the outcome the Election. Further, it very much appears that the mainstream US media has had that same degree of ‘role’ in contributing to the outcome of there being, now, many truly hurt and damaged, mostly young, idealistic and susceptible, people; and the appalling rioting and violence that followed (and is promised to be continued by certain people) in its wake. Not sure that I’ve read anything from the same media urging people to calm and democratic, lawful behaviour, but, rather, just continued general demeaning as ‘racists’; ‘bigots’, being ‘uneducated’, etc. of people who voted ‘against them’ (as they seem to see it).

The confessional Sulzberger letter begins to highlight the papers’ problem when it promises to cover the experiences of all Americans. The paper seems to be heavily staffed with reporters, editors, etc. who have a personal stake in identity politics. It has its favored identity groups. You know what they are. The only reason they are making a weak attempt at an apology to subscribers and viewers is not that they underestimated the Trump appeal, but that they underestimated the financial impact on their bottom line by openly picking sides in an election rather than provide objective reporting.
Customers are not a right. Many choices have consequences that cannot be undone. You made one of those choices.
The NYT did not apologize for their biased reporting and they did not promise to do better. If you actually read their letter, they said, “We believe we reported on both candidates fairly during the presidential campaign. You can rely on The New York Times to bring the same fairness, the same level of scrutiny, the same independence to our coverage of the new president and his team.”
So what they’re saying is you can expect the same level of fairness going forward as they showed during the election. I actually believe what they said. It’s just that all the headlines I’m seeing are not being truthful about what they said.

There is an additional reason why the Trump supporters were unfazed by attacks mounted on the President-Elect Donald J. Trump. The press had lost all its moral authority during the 2008 election cycle, acting as press agent for an inexperienced former community activists, out of no-where candidate Obama.
The press, over the next eight years, continued to ignore the gross negligence and excessive disregard Obama channeled towards America, to the point, that when the press did rightfully attack candidate Trump, the criticism held no weight.
The journalistic press releases were discount by the Trump supporters, much in the same way, press releases are discounted by journalist. In their zeal to promote their employer’s choice and their own blog, they showed complete contempt for the average American citizen.

I work at a hospital in central Illinois. Our “Leaders” have dictated that televisions in common areas such as the cafeteria can only be tuned to CNN. At least the NYT has some awareness. However is CNN completely naïve to the fact, that across the USA numerous Americans have been talking for months about just how “deplorable” their media rhetoric and bias has been throughout this campaign? Who do they think they are fooling? We have watched them attack every Trump supporter pompously and consistently. We have seen them pounce on every negative rhetoric they could embellish to persuade the American citizens for their gain. They think Americans are naïve and ignorant. Yet, they are the ones who are naïve and completely out of touch with reality. CNN and others created Trump’s ascent through their arrogant coverage of him for their narcissistic comic relief of the election; instead they contributed to his consistent and growing popularity.
You want to be forgiven? Every day the media slandered him like a convicted felon going to his death! He outsmarted every one of you! Print your apologies and give them away at every riot in the US currently going on due to this media corruption! You all should be ashamed. Real people have lost real lifetime friends due to media lies. Relationships that folks have had for decades. President elect Trump will not even take a paycheck! But for you it’s all about the almighty dollar!

Really it is too late. There is such a thing as forgiveness but they will need to ask President Trump to receive it. You see Donald Trump pleaded and begged the NYT and all the lliberal media throughout his campaign to stop spreading lies about him, but the NYT and other liberal propaganda outlets ignored his requests and with all prejudice they continued to smear him day in and day out. It ruined his reputation among the simple minded something he will never recover from. In the meantime the rest of America was noticing the extreme prejudice, the extreme lying, the extreme one-sided reporting while shredding a pretty much good man and at the same time exalting a serial criminal and the most corrupt politician in our nations history. The mistake the NYT, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS made and continues to make is they think Americans are stupid, that we actually believe everything they print or make mention of and quite honestly that thinking makes our blood boil. Yes, the national media has the bully pulpit but the heartland has the votes. Another thing middle America is better at than the liberal media is judging one’s character. We knew Trump wasn’t perfect but we also knew Hillary really should be in prison. The NYT’s defense of Clinton was unforgiveable as is everytime liberals defend criminals, lawbreakers, terrorists and all bad people over the rule of law, the Constitution and our military and law enforcement officers. My gut instinct tells me, yea your a little sorry and embarrassed now that you have been exposed and for awhile you’ll make an attempt to be fairer, but not really totally fair. Then after awhile you will get a few jabs in on Trump and Conservatives, followed by some body blows and then before the inaguration you will be back to your old self, that which you have been trained and educated to do, literally bred to do and that is deliver knock out punches to Trump and Conservatives whether it be truth or lies. If the NYT is truly repentive then immediately start to print the stories of those women who got caught lying about Trump hitting on them surely you know there are four women who have been caught lying about being touched. Then print the stories of all the Miss America’s who said President Trump was nothing but a gentleman, print the stories of the African Americans who have extolled Trump and how he helped them. Print stories on the bias of the national media against Trump, against Conservatives and against Christians. If you do that and don’t return to your ingrained liberal bias, I gurantee you your readership will swell and you could become the shining light on the hill of America’s media. The fruits of repentance is in your printing presses.

Telling the truth about Trump was a clear sign of bias. Covering every (yawn) Wikileak was a clear sign of bias. Giving prominent coverage to FBI leak of “F.B.I. Sees No Clear Link to Russia” clear sign of bias. The reason you all think it was so biased is that you buy the Trump con, hook, line and sinker.
Give it a year or two. It’s likely that he’ll be able to piss of both sides of the aisle in that time, and the only people he’ll really take care of is the .001%.
And if you read the NYT column as an admission of bias I think you’re reading it wrong. More just corporate marketing.
Are you all really that surprised?\ about the bias of the media, and I mean all and each one of them? Check the reporting on “Ruby Ridge”, Branch Davidians”, the Arizona Cattle Raisers Conflict, as well as many many others they have insignificantly reported and slanted the facts to comply with their masters, big business advertisers and the politicals who are dependent of their contributions for re-elections……Their sole purpose is to “Sell Soap” thru advertising, and the more scandal or condemning sensation, the merrier. News media is no longer the 4th branch of government since it has become a propaganda machine. I believe naught of what they say, except in the obituary.
Its so refreshing and great to see you Yanks wake up and smell the coffee about what has been going on in your country for decades. People on the outside have been saying these things for years and years and you have turned a blind eye to the corruption, especially from your mainstream media, that is all owned by the corrupt criminals at the top. It is great so many people are waking up to the lies,corruption and manipulation of your population. You havn’t seen it until now but you are basically North Korea on a larger scale.

The Telegraph was biased towards trump as well. What’s worst is that you can’t respond to any of their articles. They revoke your freedom of speech. It’s also annoying that it’s attached to my Samsung Galaxy s7 and cannot be Uninstalled. Even upon disabling it, it still notifies me of their bs propaganda.
All the lefty lib rags got their marching orders, NYT, Washington Post, Politico, Huffington Post, Slate etc. They were working hand in hand with the DNC as proven by the #wikileaks. They were to be used as a weapon against Trump and his supporters. And they were to protect their evil Queen at all costs. Well, now they reap what they sowed. Praying that all of them go under as alternative media emerges as the new truth tellers. Nothing but propaganda is spewed by these disgusting excuses for unbiased news. Thankfully those like Breitbart, InfoWars, Gorilla news, Project Veritas, and Stefan Moleyneax have filled the truth void. And these organizations have also had a hand in creating the monsters that are now roaming our streets rioting. I blame all of them, from lying lame stream media like CNN aka Clinton News Network to the NYT for brainwashing all these fools into thinking that total mayhem and wreaking havoc is the proper response to a duly elected President. Thank God Trump is the President elect, maybe sanity and maturity will reign once again.
