Last year officials confiscated a handgun from Esteban Santiago, the man accused of shooting up the Ft Lauderdale Airport on Friday, killing 5 people. A month after a mental health evaluation the gun was returned to him. From BBC: Alaskan police said it was unclear if it was the gun used in the attack.
