I’m not claiming political sides, just stating fact after listening to what was presented and how the POTUS answered. He was asked if illegal immigrants would be rounded up by authorities, if they voted. The POTUS never once said illegal immigrants can go out and vote, he simply answered the question that was asked, with a factual answer. Just saying, we all may want to pay attention to detail, becuase Fox News just put words into the POTUS’ mouth, that never came out in the video clip that was shown.
Obama’s actual; words were: “… if you are undocumented, you have an even greater reason to vote …” That statement, in a court of law, would be interpreted as direct incitement to break the law.
So, I watched this video several times. The president never encouraged ” undocumented citizens ” to vote. He only assures a documented citizen that her undocumented family will not be affected by her legal vote.
Arthur, how exactly does an undocumented family legally vote? Would it be the same as myself, a US citizen, going to the Philippines and voting?

If you go watch the FULL video on YouTube, including the parts not shown… just before this clip begins, Obama says to her:
“If you want to vote and you show up at your polling place, they can’t stop you from voting… (& then he repeats himself for emphasis) THEY CAN’T STOP YOU FROM VOTING!”
If Obama was aiming his words at legal voters, this would make no sense as it would be too obvious to need saying… but spoken to illegals it is an encouragement to go vote illegally as they can’t stop you (if you’re willing to lie about being a US citizen)!
I don’t know why this wasn’t included in the video clip, but it is further evidence that Obama is encouraging illegals to vote.

Obama should have stated correctly from jump that illegals have no business voting in our elections! In FL, I am required to show a picture id, an address verification, and a signature verification. Why is this not standardized? The idea that illegals can come, vote in the U.S voting process in order for U.S. citizens to pay for them being on the dole is outrageous. My problem is that in the last month people have been outside stores doing voter registrations. Do they require proof of citizenship? NO! They only look to see who you are and that your alive. They don’t care where you live or if you snuck into the USA. They only you to register and they will carry the forms to the county registration office and all of a sudden you are eligible to vote regardless of how you got here

The correct answer would have been to remind the audience that only documented citizens can vote, so it is a non-issue. He could have then followed it with the fact that the election process is not used to search and find any person that is being sought by authorities. Gina Rodriguez is an American Citizen born in Chicago. She is an actress not a journalist, which I guess is the reason her question is so appallingly constructed. It is the sloppiness of her question that allows people to think (with a bit of help from Fox editing 😉 ) that Obama was encouraging illegals to vote. From the full video however, it is easy to see that what Obama is actually saying is that people who are legal have an added responsibility to vote to give voice to those who cannot (because they are illegal). You may or may not agree with his position, but it is clear enough that he was in no way suggesting that illegals vote. The thing is – with a bit of research and good will – you all could have easily found this out for yourselves. So… next time why not check the facts first before getting all wound up? Oh… ok… so you don’t trust the fact checking sites, Snopes, Wikipedia, mainstream media? So where do you get your facts from? From people who think like you? In Oregon, illegals are given a driver’s license and then registered to vote at the same time.
On the Oregon Govt. website it states that applicants for drivers licenses are required to present proof of citizenship or legal residency and a valid SSN. I would be interested to see your evidence that this statement by the Oregon government is false.

I have been asked a only few times for my license for ID at the polls. Any non-citizen with a NM drivers license will have an apparently valid ID, too, & will NOT be turned away from voting.

I just have a really hard time understanding this. When a person registers to vote( it’s been so long since I did) what do they have to fill out in the form. Isn’t there some kind of ID. Like a social # or license number. When I go to my assigned location they ask my name, I should have to show some proof that this is actually me shouldn’t I. Every where a person goes using a credit card, check or some sort of purchase or pick up an item we show ID, why and how is this not used in voting. These illegals can’t get the paper work done for becoming legal, but they can get the paper work done to vote. I just don’t get it! Also if I already voted I could I possibly vote more than 1 time, it should be documented that I voted already. It’s all corrupt just like the electoral vote. Is that documented or proven that vote was only placed 1time. Changes need to be made hopefully, Trump gets in and changes these loop holes.

What makes it sound like Obama is talking about illegals is the carelessness of Gina Rodriguez’s question. And I agree that Obama could have corrected Gina, but the thing is… He is focused on getting legal Latinos to vote, I like Obama, so I don’t have any problem understanding what he is saying (which, as you point out, gets clearer later on in the interview). But of course most people here hate him, and they are so sure about what they heard (that she is not a citizen and that he is inciting illegals to vote) that rational discussion becomes impossible. It’s an uphill task, convincing people that that there is even the tiniest possibly that they are totally wrong about something that they are so. damned. sure. about. But we have to get with it, because a whole segment of the population has been fed a toxic soup of misinformation from TV, talk radio and rabid internet sites. It sounds like to me Gina is saying “If I am one of them and I vote” speaking on their behalf, not that she was an illegal. So I looked her up and she is an American citizen. It is the idea of ‘an illegal being discovered, found and perhaps deported’ through the act of voting that Obama addresses.
The point that must be heard is that Obama claims “if you vote, you are a citizen yourself”. This is obviously not true. Voting does not bestow citizenship. It is citizenship that bestows the right to vote. He should have addressed the fact that if you are an illegal, by law you should not be voting and ended it right there. However, Obama does have a history of not enforcing immigration laws and citizens rights while bestowing on illegals rights afforded by law to citizens alone – such as voting. The truth is, if you are discovered committing voter fraud, yes there will be consequences.
Obama allows her, without correction, to call illegals citizens “because they contribute to this country” as if that were a true statement. Not true. Contributing in some way to this country still does not make you a citizen. Actually, the fact that someone is illegal disqualifies them from attaining citizenship as they have committed the crime of “Illegal entry (or “improper entry”) to the US which carries criminal penalties (fines and jail or prison time), in addition to civil penalties and immigration consequences (deportation and bars from future entry).” There is no way for an illegal immigrant to become a citizen. There simply isn’t a path. However, that being said, Trump has stated that, as president, he wanted to try to make a way for illegals to leave, then those without a criminal history (other than their illegal entry) re-enter the country legally on a path to citizenship.
