The Democrats have put forth a bill that would move to impeach President-elect Trump if “divest” his financial holdings.
In other words, they’re calling his financial interests a “conflict of interest” and basically telling him, “You fix this, or we’ll impeach you.”
Hairbrained.

A group of Senate Democrats will introduce legislation requiring President-elect Donald Trump to divest any financial assets that pose a conflict of interest and place the money into a blind trust.The bill would also consider any violation by Trump of conflict of interest or ethics laws a “high crime or misdemeanor under the impeachment clause of the U.S. constitution,” according to a fact sheet on the forthcoming bill from Sen. Elizabeth Warren‘s office.
“The American people deserve to know that the President of the United States is working to do what’s best for the country — not using his office to do what’s best for himself and his businesses,” the Massachusetts Democrat said.
Democratic Sens. Ben Cardin (Md.), Chris Coons (Del.), Dick Durbin (Ill.) and Jeff Merkley (Ore.) also back the legislation. They’ll formally introduce the bill next month when lawmakers return to Washington.The legislation would require incoming first lady Melania Trump, Vice President-elect Mike Pence, his wife, Karen Pence, and Trump’s youngest son, Barron, to shed any financial assets that would pose a conflict of interest and place them into a blind trust.It would also block presidential appointees from participating in matters that are directly linked to the Trumps’ financial interests, or businesses controlled by the president-elect or Melania Trump.The legislation would face an uphill battle in a GOP-controlled Congress, where leadership has stressed since the election that they are focused on working with Trump.But Democrats are showing no signs of backing down from their monthslong hounding of Trump over his financial ties, urging him to follow the advice of a top government ethics office.Twenty-three senators sent a letter to Trump this week, warning that his financial ties “have the potential for serious conflicts between the national interest and your personal financial interests.”Durbin noted that Trump was expected to announce his plans to untangle himself from his vast businesses ties this week, but argued he instead took time to meet with Kanye West.
“President-elect Trump’s financial entanglements are unprecedented in American history, and the American people are still waiting to hear what steps he will take before January 20th to guard against conflicts of interest and corruption in his Administration,” he said.Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway said the press conference would be delayed until next month because of “how convoluted and complex many of these business holdings are.”
Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) separately released a letter from the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) that noted it wasn’t involved in Trump’s business plan. It also said that Trump’s stated plan to turn over the Trump Organization to his oldest children would not qualify as a “blind trust.”Trump defended his businesses on Thursday morning, saying on Twitter: “The media tries so hard to make my move to the White House, as it pertains to my business, so complex — when actually it isn’t!”

I AM FED UP WITH ALL THESE CRACKPOTS……Government service, even the office of the President, was NEVER MEANT TO BE A FULL TIME JOB OR CAREER. IT IS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Back in the days of Washington and Lincoln, etc., Presidents would for their term to do the service laid out in the Constitution, working FOR THE PEOPLE, and then when that term was finished, he would RETURN TO HIS REGULAR JOB, BE IT CARPENTRY OR WHALING OR LOGGING, WHATEVER …The same with the Congress. Congressmen would go to Washinton for a specific number of weeks or months out of the year to do the people’s business. When they were out of session for lets say, the winter season, they would still be a congressman, but would return to their own hometown and live normally amongst the people he represents when he goes to Washington DC; BUT DURING THAT TIME IN HIS OWN HOMETOWN, DO YOU THINK HE WAS SITTING AROUND IN A SMOKING JACKET WITH SLIPPERS ON BEING SERVED TEA?? OF COURSE NOT: HE WAS DOING HIS REGULAR LIFE’S WORK; MAYBE HE WAS A FARMER, OR PERHAPS HE WAS A DOCTOR OR EVEN REPAIRED AND SOLD SHOES. WHATEVER HIS REGULAR LIFE’S WORK WAS, WAS NOT TAKEN AWAY FROM HIM BECAUSE HE SERVED THE COUNTRY.
He maintained his business, having overseers of his business affairs while he was away in DC serving the people for his term in whatever office he held. Very often the wife would take over office work or kept farming while he was away; perhaps they would hire on a few workers to help her maintain something as large and complex as a big farm where there was not equipment to harvest crops like we have today. GOVERNMENT POSITIONS ARE NOT CAREERS; THEY ARE POSITIONS OF SERVICE….SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE, CHOSEN BY THE PEOPLE THRU THE VOTING PROCESS, FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PEOPLE, EMPLOYED BY THE PEOPLE FOR A SPECIFIC LENGTH OF TIME.
IN TODAY’S WORLD, ONCE A CONGRESSMAN GETS INTO DC, HE SETTLES IN FOR WHAT HE HOPES IS FOR THE NEXT 30 YEARS, AND EVEN IF HE IS VOTED OUT AFTER TEN YEARS IN OFFICE, HE COMES OUT RICH AS HELL…..ITS NO SECRET, THEY ALL COME OUT MILLIONAIRES. THEY WOULD HAVE NO REASON TO BEND THEIR BACKS A BIT TO DO SOME REAL WORK AND EARN AN HONEST DOLLAR….THEY WOULDN’T KNOW HOW TO DO IT. Hillary used her position in our government as Secretary of State to get rich, used a private e-mail server to do government business, then deleted thousands of the e-mails when she got caught, received millions of dollars from foreign governments for favors and they have a nerve to raise so much concern about Trump. Trump is a billionaire, said he will not take a salary as President, used his own money in his campaign. He owes no one anything. What the h-ll are they afraid of.

Not refunding it, since they are suddenly bereft of any ability to dole out the expected favors leaves them in the uncomfortable position of having to perpetually watch their backs. I’m sure the favors were offered as a sure thing. Trump’s win was the last thing they, their donors, or their fawning media accomplices expected to happen. Now that it has, they are grabbing at every conceivable straw to try to reverse it. No surprise.
