BREAKING : 2005 Tax Return Proves Trump Didn’t “Avoid Paying Taxes for 18 Years”
During the 2016 election, liberals and the dishonest mainstream media relentlessly attacked President Trump for not releasing his taxes – something he was not required to do as a private citizen.
The New York Times got a hold of Donald Trump’s 1995 tax returns, showing a loss, so he understandably did not pay taxes that year.
However, the media used that to create a wild new narrative suggesting Donald Trump had avoided taxes for 18 years.
Fake news.
This is the headline NBC News and most mainstream outlets used to cover the bogus story:

Now that President Trump’s 2005 tax returns have been leaked, we see he paid $38 million in taxes, so once again the media lied.
From Chicago Tribune
It turns out Trump didn’t avoid income taxes for nearly two decades, after all.
The New York Times back in October obtained Trump’s state tax return from 1995. Based on that return and the realities of how real estate developers can avoid income taxes due to devaluation of their properties, the newspaper and others deduced that Trump could have avoided paying any income taxes for up to 18 years afterward.
Here’s the Times’ report at the time, titled “Donald Trump Tax Records Show He Could Have Avoided Taxes for Nearly Two Decades, The Times Found”:
“Donald J. Trump declared a $916 million loss on his 1995 income tax returns, a tax deduction so substantial it could have allowed him to legally avoid paying any federal income taxes for up to 18 years, records obtained by The New York Times show.
“The 1995 tax records, never before disclosed, reveal the extraordinary tax benefits that Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, derived from the financial wreckage he left behind in the early 1990s through mismanagement of three Atlantic City casinos, his ill-fated foray into the airline business and his ill-timed purchase of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.
“Tax experts hired by The Times to analyze Mr. Trump’s 1995 records said that tax rules especially advantageous to wealthy filers would have allowed Mr. Trump to use his $916 million loss to cancel out an equivalent amount of taxable income over an 18-year period.”
If the media stopped trying to play a “gotcha” game with President Trump and just reported FACTS, life and ratings would be much better.
