Bill Kristol and Stephen Hayes Can’t Get Over Trump’s Rise and Their New Found Irrelevance

In any other election year, Donald Trump, now with 988 Delegates compared to only 568 for Ted Cruz would have been universally touted as “Presumptive Nominee” long ago. However 2016 has a dynamic unlike any other in political history. With no political experience, Trump came, crashed the RNC party, and is actively re-writing all the rules.

988TrumpUntil Trump, there was an unwritten etiquette as to how GOP candidates were supposed to “behave.” GOP Political candidates were not supposed to speak so overtly about how opposing candidates are puppets to their donors, they were not supposed to talk about how “free trade” has effectively become “unfair trade” and GOP candidates were most definitely not supposed to expose the convoluted nature of the GOP nomination system itself.

Trump has done it “his way” and taken his message to the voters like no other, delighting his supporters with rock concert-like events and building a loyal following that love his stream of consciousness tweets. With every cause there is an effect and by doing things his way, Trump has ruffled the feathers of those who liked things the way they were, even if that meant losing.

Chief among those the Trump movement has upset are the entrenched DC establishment journalists. With the rise of self-assured Trump, this group comprised of mostly introverts saw their perceived power and role of kingmaker melt away. While Trump has been celebrated as a “man of the people” these political pundits have been cast off and relentlessly mocked by Trump’s social media supporters. Now with Trump on the brink of turning their worst fears into reality, the “Never Trump” martyrs must cope with the fact Trump is winning by such a large margin he will not be able to be denied the nomination.

How are Bill Kristol and Stephen Hayes handling this? Not very well. Both have effectively gone kamikaze and have advocated for the backing of a third party “conservative” candidate. Do they think a third party candidate can win? Of course not. If Trump vs. Hillary is the final battle, they want to help Hillary. You see, Bill Kristol and Stephen Hayes have no problem losing. They are used to it and lost in 2008 and 2012. What they find far more unacceptable is a new reality – the reality that they have become completely powerless, the reality that they are now irrelevant, and the reality that they will have no audience that cares what they say during a Trump administration.
